We all know the summer months can cause hair to get frizz which can make your blowout fluffy but what does the cold winter months do to your hair health and blowouts? As the seasons change your hair changes and it can affect your blowout and the condition of your hair. Let me teach you how to keep your locks luscious and your blowouts bouncy.
Problems The Cold Weather Can Cause:
- Blowouts fall flat
- Dry, brittle hair
- Dull
- Split ends
- Breakage from your scarf or jacket
- Static
How To Fix The Problems:
- Blowouts fall flat – Cold weather deflates the volume in hair. Why it makes hair fall flat is because the cold weather removes moisture from hair. Too much moisture can cause hair to become big and fluffy like when it’s humid in the summer. But when hair loses too much moisture due to cold air it becomes flat and lifeless.
- How to fix it- Use a moisturizing hair conditioning treatment. Do this once a week in the winter. Also use a volumizing shampoo and conditioner, even if you have a lot of hair and won’t normally reach for a volume shampoo.
- Dry, brittle hair – Just like the way cold weather dries out your skin, it can dry out your hair as well.
-
How to fix it – Do a conditioning mask once to twice a week.
-
- Dull – With hair losing moisture and becoming more dry it will look duller than usual.
- How to fix it – Have your colorist do a clear color gloss on your hair. This helps seal down your cuticle and puts shine back into your hair.
- Splits ends – Cold weather can causes split ends because first hair gets dry and brittle, than begins to split. How split ends work is when hair becomes damaged the ends begin to split. Hair will continue to split up the hair shaft until it is cut off. This can also be why you feel like your hair doesn’t grow. You need to make sure to cut off split ends in order for hair to grow. Otherwise as hair grows it keeps splitting causing hair not to gain length because it breaks.
- How to fix it – Get a trim every 6 – 8 weeks.
- Breakage from your scarf or jacket – Jackets are a must and scarfs are cute and keep us warm. Have you noticed little short hairs at the nape of your neck in the winter time? It’s because hair gets caught up in your jacket and scarfs.
- How to fix it – The best way to prevent this from happening is to make sure your hair is off your neck when you put your scarf on. Don’t put your scarf on then pull your hair out from it. You can also wear it up while your outside and all bundled up.
- Static – Dry hair is staticky hair.
- How to fix it- If your noticing static this means you need to use a little more conditioner in the shower. Make sure it’s a moisturizing conditioner. You can also use a leave-in conditioner after the shower.
